The Philosophy behind Kiwi Down Under Farm is that it is not just a farm or a teahouse - but a lifestyle - where a message about the environment is delivered by example. It is hoped that visitors will leave with a greater knowledge of , and respect for the environment and with thoughts on how they too can change it for the better.
The History of the FarmIn 1982, The Hackett Family purchased the property that has now become Kiwi Down Under Farm. They set about establishing a Kiwifruit plantation, growing a variety of Kiwifruit called “Delicious Dexter”. (Thus the name, Kiwi Down Under Farm). The Hackett's soon decided that diversification was needed, plus Tom and Marguerite were dissatisfied with conventional farming practices and started to investigate Organic principles. The Hacketts developed their own unique method of farming that did not involve the use of pesticides - organic farming, which later extended to Bio-Dynamic farming. The uniqueness of Tom and Marguerite’s farming methods began to attract growing numbers of visitors wishing to see their beautiful farm and learn about their organic cultivation methods. This constant flow of visitors sowed the seed for the Hackett’s diversification into tourism, with formal guided tours of the farm and opening of the Teahouse which has now evolved into a Multi Award Winning Tourist Attraction.
